Coding fun at DSA Kids‘ Day 2025

On the 3rd of April 2025, DSA opened its doors once again for the annual DSA Kids’ Day. This year, with 18 participants, the response was particularly strong. Traditionally, the DSA Kids‘ Day takes place on the same day as the official Boys’ and Girls' Day. It addresses girls as well as boys.
The day offered kids and teenagers the opportunity to gain their first programming experiences while learning more about the daily work and technical job profiles at DSA. For some, it was their first contact with the world of computer science – and thus a valuable contribution to career orientation.
This time, it was all about the Raspberry Pi minicomputer. After a brief introduction to the Python programming language, the guests worked in small groups on various projects: controlling sockets via the minicomputer, connecting ultrasonic sensors for distance measurement, or programming a simple Pong game. The DSA apprentices had prepared the tasks and also provided support in finding solutions. Throughout the day, a fun atmosphere was maintained. Some of the kids already had programming experience, while others were approaching the subject for the first time. While some concentrated on fiddling with the codes, others took the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor activities to recharge with energy.
The small, practical projects were designed not only to spark interest, but also to motivate the young visitors to solve tasks and to awaken their curiosity about the world of IT and technology. This year, this aim was once again successfully achieved. Perhaps we will see some of the young guests again in a few years as apprentices at DSA. The application phase for the coming training year is already underway, and there are still apprenticeships available.
